Every week, I develop and test new recipes. Generally, I cook for myself and others. However, when cooking for myself, I constantly have to work on alternatives, such as using plant-based milk instead of regular milk, thanks to having well over a dozen food allergies. As an ADHD person, I often get stuck on what is called “safe food.” However, I do desire to create new recipes and diversify my meals accordingly.
β
Of course, working in tech, I thought I’d make this process easier by testing out ChatGPT and seeing if it could save me some time. And it absolutely did!
β
Here are three ways I leveraged ChatGPT in my recipe development:
β
1. Innovative Ingredient Pairing:
I tell ChatGPT what I envision and what specific ingredients I have on hand. I then let the model generate creative suggestions for unique ingredient combinations.
β
2. Customized Dietary Adaptations
I adapt recipes to suit my various allergies by describing my specific restrictions. Regardless of aiming for a vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or keto-friendly dish, ChatGPT provides valuable insights, suggesting ingredient substitutions and adjustments to accommodate diverse dietary needs.
β
3. Culinary Troubleshooting
ChatGPT acts as a virtual sous chef, helping overcome challenges. When experiencing an issue, such as developing a bread recipe that took an unexpected turn, I describe my problem and ask for a creative solution. In return, I get solutions to try, as well as alternative cooking techniques.

Incorporating ChatGPT into your recipe development process opens a world of possibilities, pushing the boundaries of culinary imagination and overcoming culinary challenges. ChatGPT is the perfect companion in the kitchen, helping to reach new creative heights.
